This Brighton lakeside property had a real slope problem. Getting from the driveway up to the front door wasn't just awkward - it was a safety issue. The grade was steep, uneven, and there was no clean path to work with. That's the kind of challenge we actually enjoy solving.

We went with Unilock Brussel Block pavers for the steps throughout this entry. The high-format, irregular style gives each tread a natural, quarried look - and that matters on a property like this one. The existing home already had beautiful fieldstone and round boulder accents built into the exterior, so we needed something that felt like it belonged there, not something that looked like it was dropped in from a different job.

The staircase winds up the slope in sections, broken up with landings that give the whole path a comfortable, walkable rhythm. Each step is wide and solid underfoot. We also tied in a Brussel Block paver apron near the garage and entry area, keeping the material consistent across the whole front of the property. A channel drain was set flush into the paver surface to handle water runoff - important on any sloped site, but especially one sitting right on the water.

The boulders flanking the steps weren't just decorative. They help anchor the grade on both sides and keep the surrounding soil from shifting into the path over time. It's the kind of detail that makes the work hold up long after we're gone.

Lakeside properties in Brighton deal with a lot - freeze-thaw cycles, grade changes, drainage. Getting the hardscape right from the start means you're not dealing with heaving, cracking, or wash-out a few years down the road. This one was built to last, and it looks like it was always meant to be there.
