A lot of backyards in this area have the space for a great outdoor setup - they just don't have a surface to build around. Bare grass or a cracked concrete slab doesn't give you much to work with when you want to grill, relax, or just get outside and use your yard. That's exactly the kind of problem a well-built paver patio solves.

For this Fowlerville home, we installed a Unilock Beacon Hill patio in the Fossil colorway. Beacon Hill is one of our favorite products to work with. The large-format slab look gives it a modern feel, and the Fossil blend has that warm, earthy tone that works really well against a typical Michigan home exterior. It doesn't try too hard - it just looks clean and intentional.

We bordered the field pavers with a darker course along the perimeter. That detail matters more than people realize. It gives the whole patio a finished, framed-in appearance and visually defines the space. Without it, even a nice patio can look like it just kind of stops. With it, the whole thing feels purposeful.

What makes a paver patio worth the investment isn't just how it looks on day one. It's the fact that you're not resealing it every year, not watching it crack after a harsh winter, and not dealing with uneven surfaces that shift and heave over time. Unilock products are built for this climate, and when they're installed correctly with proper base prep, they hold up. That's the part most people don't see - but it's where the work actually happens.

This is a solid example of what a paver patio can do for a backyard that otherwise doesn't have a defined gathering space. Whether you've been thinking about it for one season or five, it's worth having a conversation about what your yard could look like.
